Unicorn Herd

Picture
A small herd of unicorns is under my protection.

This species of unicorn is very small and goat-like. They are probably about the size of normal goats (not dwarf or pygmy). They are shy, gentle creatures. They prefer to avoid conflict, but they have natural defenses against threats, such as their horn and sharp hooves. Some unicorns are born without a horn and some lose the horn later on. Unicorns with wings are rare. It is thought to be a trait passed down from a specific line of unicorns, descended from a creature that was winged and interbred with unicorns to create winged unicorns.

Unicorns are not large enough to be ridden by average sized humans, and even if they were, it would be difficult to do. While this herd tolerates my presence, they do not let me near enough to touch them. Perhaps if a unicorn was raised by humans from a newborn, it could trust humans more than these, but that would require taking a baby from its herd or finding one that was orphaned. Unicorns raise their offspring communally, so it is difficult to tell who birthed the babies based on behavior and that leads me to believe that if the mother died, the baby would still be well cared for.
